Peggy Alford | EBay
EBay’s chief financial officer, Steve Priest, will step down on May 11 and be replaced by Peggy Alford, who will take over as finance chief on May 12. Priest, who has been CFO since 2021, will transition to an advisory role until July 31. Alford joins the company from PayPal, where she is currently executive vice president of global sales and merchant services. Before rejoining PayPay in 2017, Alford was CFO and head of operations at Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. She earlier spent six years at PayPay in several senior leadership roles, including vice president and chief financial officer for the Americas. Her experience includes being CFO for over three years at Rent.com, a former subsidiary of eBay.
Peter Hadley | ADP
ADP’s treasurer, Peter Hadley, was appointed finance chief, effective July 1. Hadley joined ADP in 2002 and has held several senior executive leadership positions, including most recently as corporate vice president and treasurer, a role he has held since 2022. Previous roles include president of Asia Pacific and CFO for ADP’s global enterprise solutions and employer services international. Before joining ADP, Hadley held several roles at KPMG in the United Kingdom and Arthur Andersen in Australia. Hadley succeeds Don McGuire, who has been CFO since 2021. McGuire will be available through September 30 to help with the transition.
Scott Gray | Mars
Mars, the maker of M&M’s and Snickers, appointed Scott Gray to the newly created role of deputy CFO. Gray will report to Claus Aagaard, CFO of Mars. Gray joins Mars after five years at coffee and tea company JDE Peet’s, where he was group CFO and, for a period, as interim chief executive officer, based in Amsterdam. Before JDE Peet’s, he spent 11 years at Anheuser-Busch InBev in several senior finance and procurement roles in Belgium and New York, including global vice president of treasury and risk management and vice president of finance for Europe. Gray also has experience at Deutsche Bank and General Motors Acceptance.
John Woods | State Street
State Street named John Woods as chief financial officer. Woods, who will join State Street in late August, succeeds interim CFO Mark Keating, who has held the role since February. He joins State Street from Citizens Financial Group, where he has worked since 2017 and is currently CFO and vice chairman. Before Citizens, Woods was at Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, where he was most recently the CFO of MUFG Americas Holdings. Before that, Woods held financial leadership roles at other large financial institutions, including CFO of Home Lending at JPMorgan Chase. He started his career at Arthur Andersen, where he became a partner in the financial and risk consulting group.
Sydney Carey | Avalara
Sydney Carey was named CFO of cloud-based tax compliance automation provider Avalara. Carey was most recently the finance chief of Talkdesk, an enterprise contact center platform. She has held several senior leadership roles over her 20-year career, including as CFO of Sumo Logic, where she led its IPO, and has been CFO of Zscaler, MongoDB and Duo Security. She started her career at TIBCO, where she spent a decade as corporate controller and was later appointed CFO.
Mike Berry | MongoDB
Mike Berry will take over as finance chief of document database MongoDB on May 27. Since March 2020, Berry has been chief financial officer of data infrastructure firm NetApp. He has held seven CFO roles over his 30-year career, including at McAfee, FireEye, Informatica and Solarwinds. Berry previously announced his retirement from NetApp in August 2024, but said the “opportunity to join a company the caliber of MongoDB was incredibly compelling.”
Mathew Ellis | Accel Entertainment
Mathew Ellis, CFO of distributed gaming operator Accel Entertainment, will resign on May 9. Mark Phelan, Accel’s president of U.S. gaming, will take over as acting chief financial officer when Ellis departs. The company is starting its search to fill the CFO position permanently. Ellis has been CFO since May 2022 and was previously Accel’s senior vice president of corporate strategy. Before that, he was vice president of financial planning and analysis of Transworld Systems.
Cameron Paterson | Aris Mining
Cameron Paterson will join Aris Mining as its new finance chief in July to replace outgoing CFO Richard Orazietti. For the last 11 years, Paterson has worked at Pan American Silver, most recently as senior vice president of finance and IT. He has held executive roles at Pan American Silver since 2015, including as vice president of financial reporting. Before that, he was vice president of finance at junior mining company Veris Gold and he began his career at Deloitte.
John Bendl | Vanguard
Financial services company Vanguard named John Bendl as CFO and managing director, effective July 1. Bendl, the principal and head of FP&A and enterprise strategic services, has been with the company for over eight years. Bendl succeeds Michael Rollings, who will retire after nearly a decade with the company. Before joining Vanguard in 2016 as chief accounting officer, Bendl spent 24 years at KPMG, where he rose to partner.
